Fla Democrats want Moratorium on End-of Course Exams

Democratic lawmakers want to put on hold Florida’s student testing, school grading and plans to tie teacher pay to student performance.

Those things are a part of legislation introduced this week, calling for a three-year moratorium.

The proposals in the state House and Senate come only a few weeks before state education leaders are set to announce a new system for evaluating students, teachers and schools.  That system is expected to replace the FCAT, or Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

Governor Rick Scott last year demanded that the state abandon the incoming testing system because it is tied to the controversial Common Core Standards.
