2 Florida Hurricanes Lead To Citizens Property Ins. To Seek Rate Hikes

Hurricane Generic

After two hurricanes in Florida last year, Citizens Property Insurance is looking to raise homeowner premiums by 6.7 percent on average statewide...here in Palm Beach County, the hike would be 9.3 percent.

The increase would mean the average premium for a single family home would increase by more than $200 locally.

Wind-only policies would go up by 2.6 percent in Palm Beach County if the full Citizens board approves the rate hikes Tuesday and state regulators give final approval.

The new rates would take effect in 2018.
