New "Sober Homes Law" Takes Effect Saturday

U.S. Drug Deaths Continue Rapid Rise

A majority of new laws signed by the governor will go into effect on Saturday, including one that cracks down on sober homes.

Rick Scott signed House Bill 807 into law this week.  It brings about increased penalties for unethical marketing in the sober home industry.

The bill was sponsored by Boca Raton Republican State Rep. Bill Hager, who says it will give law enforcement more tools to arrest and prosecute the folks operating illegal sober homes.

There is evidence of human trafficking, prostitution and patient brokering at some of these businesses.

We'll be speaking with Palm Beach County State Attorney and head of the county Sober Home Task Force, Dave Aronberg later this week.
