Tracking Trump - The President's approval for March 9th

Bottom Line: This is one of two weekly tracking stories to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President. In this series we'll track the high point, low point and current ratings...

  • Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval and 59% disapproval: -22% (8/4/17)

  • Trump highest approval ratings 45% approval and 43% disapproval +2% (1/27/17):

  • Trump's current ratings: 41% approval and 54% disapproval: -13%

No big changes this week but an oddly there was a 1% decrease in both his overall approval rating but also in disapproval leaving his net approval rating unchanged. What's interesting is that the range in the polling narrowed up considerably. Last week Trump polled as high as 51% and as low as 37%. This week the range was 39% to 46%.

Also, as I've been tracking for several months now...The more likely someone is to vote, the higher the President's overall approval rating.

  • With adult only samples his rating over the past week averaged: 39%

  • Registered voters: 40%

  • Likely voters: 46%

This is especially relevant as we're entering the mid-term election cycle. President Obama's average approval rating was 48% at this stage in his Presidency (seven points higher than President Trump) with a 46% approval rating with likely voters - which is even with Trump.
