Important headlines for June 27th – Gov. Scott proposed what?!
Bottom Line: These are stories you shouldn't miss and my takes on them...
Excerpt: Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican candidate for the Senate, unveiled Tuesday the fourth proposal of his “Make Washington Work” agenda — “require Congress to pass an annual budget and meet appropriations bill deadlines, or forgo their own salaries until the job is done.”
To become law, however, it would likely take an amendment to the Constitution to repeal the 27th Amendment, which prohibits changing the salaries of House and Senate members until an ensuing election.
The 27th Amendment reads, “No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.’’
And passing a constitutional amendment isn’t easy. It takes a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress, after which two-thirds of the states must call for a convention to consider it.
Scott’s three other “Make Washington Work” proposals so far are imposing term limits in Congress (which also would require a constitutional amendment), requiring a vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase and giving the president line-item veto powers.
Hot Take: Now there's an idea...not allowing Congress to pay themselves until Congress actually does its most basic constitutionally mandated job. Now here's the thing. Every time he proposes something, like term limits or this compensation question, there's the immediate picture that's painted of how hard it is to change. Anyone think that's maybe why nothing meaningful seems to change in Congress? Let me ask you...
Do you support term limits in Congress?
Do you support Congress having to pass a budget (which they're actually obligated to do but conveniently ignore) to get paid?
Do you support a line-item veto?
Ok, now do you vote? Do the politicians have to win our vote? So, if we really wanted these reforms couldn't we support candidates that make them a priority and vote out those that don't? Wouldn't that create the change? But no, it's hard so let's not try right? Yeah, kinda like a former business guy with no political experience becoming a full-term governor of the 3rd largest state right? Or the country as the case maybe... Excuses are for losers. Washington's filled with them, so is the media. Both can be changed.

Hot Take: Ding, ding, ding. How often do we hear leftists preach tolerance and inclusion only to demonstrate in the most bigoted ways possible how intolerant they really are. But the hypocrisy doesn't end there.
