House rejects Republican immigration bill, ignoring Trump - Sun Sentinel/US News and World/Report / Fox News
Excerpt: A sprawling, compromise GOP immigration bill that would have provided a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants while directing $25 billion for the construction of President Trump’s border wall failed in the House on Wednesday, despite encouragement from the president for Republicans to support it.
The bill was overwhelmingly rejected 301-121, in part because some Republicans are reluctant to vote for any bill they worry could be portrayed as “amnesty.”
Hot Take: Hense my headline. All Democrats voted against this. Why? It included a pathway for DACA recipients and funding for a wall/border security measures that Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Chuck Schumer and Bill Nelson (amoung others) all voted for in 2006? Has border security become less of an issue or a bigger one since then?
Enough Republicans voted against this to solidly kill this. Why? It included the funding for border security that's desperately needed, according to the border patrol themselves – let alone our understanding, if we're to seek a legitimate solution this has to happen. Now it won't. And honestly, what's gained by DACA recipients starting the process towards permanent/desired status from here rather than from any other country?
So here we are with a mess that's certain to exacerbate because this is what bipartisan failure looks like. No one wins and nothing good comes of it...
Excerpt: More than 100 politicians in Mexico have been killed since September in the lead-up to the country’s election this Sunday, and more than 13,000 Mexicans have been killed since January.
In an 11 year war on drugs, Mexico has failed to control organized crime and criminal infiltration of local governments and law enforcement.
Some 20 or so percent of voters remain undecided, and security is expected to be a major factor in how they choose to vote.
Hot Take: And we're having a debate about a stronger, more secure southern border why? How is it defensible to not provide the border patrol who's tasked with securing our southern border with the resources they've said they need to provide proper security – which includes the border wall? Basic American security shouldn't be a political issue. In fact, the only federal mandate our government has is to provide security.
