Florida’s recount timeline & all affected races for South Floridians
Bottom Line: After the criminally corrupt behavior wrapped up in Broward and Palm Beach Counties on Saturday, recounts were ordered by Florida’s Secretary of State Ken Detzner. By now you’ve probably heard that machine recounts are underway and manual recounts will likely be following in many races after the machine recount. Here’s how it works.
Machine recount now through Thursday at 3 pm
All counties are conducting machine recounts on all previously submitted ballots due to three statewide races (Governor, US Senate and Agriculture Commissioner) requiring them under Florida law. In the event that a county isn’t successful in completing the recount (as Palm Beach County has already indicated) by the deadline, the originally reported results are used instead. After Thursday’s machine recount deadline, any races that are above .25% will be settled for final confirmation consideration. Any races below .25% will head for a manual recount.
Hand recount due on November 18th
The hand recount has a tight-turnaround. Manual recounts are to be completed and reported to the state on the 18th - next Sunday. We remember Florida 2000 and legal challenges that held up the certification process. Stay tuned.
