  • Airbnb has agreed to settle with Palm Beach County over the alleged tax avoidance by Airbnb hosts. Palm Beach County has a 6% bed tax it alleged was avoided by most hosts using the service. The settlement calls for a business ID number and tax ID number to be included in listings. Under existing rules In Palm Beach County, those who avoid paying the tax are subject to a $500 per day fine. The settlement must be approved in court.
  • AOB reform is set to save the average Citizens insured home 5% upon their next renewal in 2020. Rates will still rise by 3.5% but that’s down from the original 8.5% figure prior to AOB. Citizens was mandated by state law to pass AOB savings to customers. 
  • State Senator Manny Diaz is proposing a Constitutional Amendment that would limit all forms of property tax assessments to homesteaded limits for seniors 65 and older. Currently school taxes are exempt from homestead limits.
  • The World’s Largest Christmas Light Maze and Market is being created at Tropicana Field in Tampa running from November 22nd through December 29th. Tickets are on sale now and range from $15 to $33.
