  • Governor Desantis has issued a new proposal to overhaul teacher pay in the 2020 session. At the crux of the plan would be a new minimum starting salary of $47,500 for teachers in Florida. If that happened it would lift Florida’s starting teacher pay from 26th nationally to second behind only New Jersey. 
  • US District Court Judge Robert Hinkle began hearing the arguments in the lawsuit challenging Florida’s law requiring financial restitution to be paid as part of the restoration process. It’s estimated 436,000 former felons are potentially impacted by the outcome of this case.
  • A record setting 2,738 Hepatitis A cases have been reported in Florida this year with an additional 62 cases documented last week. Pasco, Pinellas and Volusia counties have the highest count of reported cases to date. Health officials are warning that the most common way it’s being spread is through contaminated food and drinks.
