- New bills being taken up in the state session this week include a proposed ban on breeding iguanas, the Creation of a state Resiliency Task Force with an emphasis on sea-level rise, gun control reforms including the end of what’s often referred to as the gun show loophole and protections for nude sunbathing at select beaches statewide.
- The Senate Education Committee will begin to address the December grand jury report which highlighted issues across the state with the implementation of the school safety measures in the Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act. Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties were all shown to have had lapses according to the grand jury report. The grand jury has recommended penalties for school districts in noncompliance.
- David Beckham’s MLS team, Inter Miami, has begun their first training camp. Training is taking place at Barry University
- Approximately 40 arrests and 50 vehicles were impounded during Monday’s “Wheels Up, Guns Down” demonstrations in Broward and Miami as riders routinely broke traffic laws putting themselves and others on the roads at risk.
- Governor DeSantis announced Made in Space is moving its Headquarters from California to Florida. The company has flown 8 missions to the International Space Station and currently is working with NASA on a $74 million satellite project.
