Incumbent Congresswoman Lois Frankel Faces A Democrat Primary Challenger

The race for Congressional District 21 is back in our Election Spotlight...as we look at the Democrats.

For the first time since 2012, Incumbent Representative Lois Frankel faces a primary challenger. In 2018, no candidates on any side challenged her.

"Look this is Democracy and I welcome the competition."

The competition in the Democrat Primary is Guido Weiss, a Wellington native and an Officer in the Navy Reserve.

"Here's one thing I can instantly do is be present. Her constituent services office is in Ted Deutch's district."

Deutch is the sitting District 22 Representative. Frankel says redistricting happened soon after she opened the office and it's not far from her constituents. She says she was given permission at the time to keep it there rather than spend the money to move the office.

"I think Mr. Weiss should spend more time taking a look at what Donald Trump is doing and what the Republicans are doing instead of sniping at me."

Weiss expands on claims that the Incumbent is not there for consitutents.

"I do have a lot of respect for, especially some of her past work. But as I've seen as of late, it's just not a lot of effort to help our community."

Frankel denies that.

"I try to keep my eye on what's important to the folks. Right now I've been spending probably 90 percent of my time on this COVID issue, trying to get relief to our constituents."

Weiss has worked for several Democrat Congress members, including former Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard. He says he wants to bring the Democrat party back to what he calls its core values of being "for the people."

"I'm the first person to ever run in the Democratic primary that's not sponsored by companies increasing our healthcare costs, polluting our district, I don't see that as a very Democratic platform and I want to change that."

The winner of this primary will face one of six candidates who prevails in the CD-21 Republican Primary.
