Florida vote by mail update & early voting update for October 22nd

Bottom Line: We’re now only twelve days away from Election Day. That still seems somewhat hard to believe. What a year it’s been. With early voting now underway in Florida – continuing daily from 7am-7pm through November 1st, the first in-person ballots cast by have now been voted in addition to the record setting number of votes by mail from to the start of early voting. Have Republicans started to bridge the gap now that they can vote in person or are Democrats continuing to runup the turnout score in-person as well?

In recent election cycles more Floridians had voted early than on Election Day or by mail. It remains to be seen if that will be the case after record requests with votes by mail. Speaking of which here’s where we stand with all votes by mail received as of Sunday.

  • Nearly 3.7 million votes have been cast
  • Democrats have outvoted Republicans by 527,836 votes by mail
  • Republicans have outvoted Democrats by 41,039 votes in early voting

Democrats have successfully executed a strong vote by mail campaign flipping the script on Republicans who led in votes by mail in the 2016 election. Republicans have moved out to a lead in early voting, which likewise, is the reverse of what we saw four years ago. It’s worth noting 13 counties still haven’t begun early voting – with most being in Republican majority counties. Republicans will have to make up a lot of ground from here if they’re to have success from the top of the ticket on down.

Here’s the party breakout of the total votes received in Florida:

  • Democrats: 46%
  • Republicans: 33%
  • NPA’s & Others: 21%
