Top Three Takeaways – February 1st, 2021

  1. February. It’s hard to believe it’s here and yet here we are. Like the altered state of a time warp reality, we’ve all been living for nearly a year now (which in its own way resembles something as convoluted but far less sexy than the Rocky Horror Picture Show), where on one hand it feels like time drags on due to the pandemic – yet every time you look at the date on the calendar you don’t know how we got there so quickly...comes a little food for thought. During times of adversity, I’m looking for opportunity. And in general, I’m seeking ways to be constructive and productive. That’s especially important for those of us who have political concerns regarding the current makeup of our political leadership in Washington. So, here’s the thing. Just as South Florida’s own Chewy.com was a screaming buy at $20 per share last March when the pandemic hit (it’s $102 per share today), there’s opportunity all around us right now. The question is what are you doing with it? If you’re the average person...not much. Based on a Redbooth study February is the 2nd least productive month of the year, and not just because it has fewer days. January, with 31, is actually the least productive of the year. It’s seasonal. Simply put most people accomplish less this time of year. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the Super Bowl specific to February, but history shows that you’ll only accomplish 7.6% of what you’ll achieve this year this month. What that means is those who make a concerted effort to be more productive will likely have outsized success with most still a bit sluggish – especially during a pandemic. On that note consider...
  2. 11am. That’s the most productive time of day for most people. Nearly 10% of everything you accomplish each day happens during the 11am hour. While it’s no surprise late and overnight hours are the least productive, it’s instructive that most people are only highly productive between the hours of 9am to 4pm. It’s not hard to move the needle when other people aren’t. One of my all-time favorite stats is 5:32. It’s the time the average American millionaire wakes up. Another is 6:30. It’s the time the average American millionaire starts working. It’s illustrative of the early bird getting the worm and that the average American millionaire isn’t handed their success, they work harder for it than others. In fact, a big reason most millionaires start work so early is due to the ability to be productive without distractions.
  3. Monday. It’s the most productive day of the week, believe it or not. 20.4% of tasks you achieve during the week (personal and professional considered) occur today. Not surprisingly Friday is the least productive day of the traditional work week. So here we are mired in the 11th month of a pandemic starting the second least productive month of the year but on the most productive day of the week. What are you planning to do with it? Looking back at great decisions people made a year ago what might you have considered but didn’t complete? Going the extra mile to achieve your goals at a time when others aren’t is often the best and fastest way to achieve more success. Cheers to yours (tonight).
