- The Florida Board of Education adopted a proposed rule effectively banning critical race theory in Florida’s schools. The rule adopted reads: Instruction on the required topics must be factual and objective and may not suppress or distort significant historical events, such as the Holocaust, and may not define American history as something other than the creation of a new nation based largely on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence. It also places specific onus on teachers against: (Sharing) their personal views or attempt to indoctrinate or persuade students to a particular point of view.
- Florida’s Supreme Court has ruled racial quotas within Florida’s legal profession are discriminatory. The case was brought after the Florida Bar Association sought to mandate racial quotas within Association functions.
- Florida’s weekly unemployment claims dropped below 6,000 over the past week to reach prepandemic levels in Florida. This came one day after a weekly index revealed Florida’s overall economy is now stronger than prior to the pandemic.
- The federal judge considering the state’s lawsuit challenging the CDC’s “No Sail” order for the cruise industry, didn’t provide resolution or specific guidance upon the conclusion of Thursday’s hearing but did say he’d reach a decision “soon”. The judge’s decision will likely determine whether the cruise industry will be able to resume operations later this month.
