  • The Florida Chamber of Commerce has issued its 2023 Business & Economic Mid-Year Report which shows Florida as the 16th largest economy in the world currently – just behind Mexico and just ahead of Indonesia. The report shows a stunning $39.2 billion in wealth has been brought into Florida over the past year by individuals and businesses which have relocated to our state. Texas was the #2 gainer at $10.9 billion.  
  • Colorado State University has raised its preseason hurricane season forecast, which called for a slightly below-average season, to an above-average year with 18 total storms. CSU cited water temperatures in the Atlantic and the National Hurricane Center’s determination in May that a subtropical storm occurred in January. According to researchers the warm water temps may “dominate” the positive effects of El Nino in reducing tropical activity.  
  • main break in Boynton Beach which had been dumping sewage into the Intracoastal Waterway has been bypassed and the leak stopped. A main break occurred on East Boynton Beach Boulevard Monday which led to sewage seeping into a stormwater outflow drain to the intracoastal. After failed initial repairs Tuesday and Wednesday, a bypass to the pipe break was successfully completed late in the afternoon yesterday. An estimated 12 million gallons of sewage dumped into the intracoastal from the break. The City has hired a company for cleanup in the waterway and is regularly testing water quality. They will notify the public once the water is considered safe. 
  • Gas prices continued to surge Thursday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.43 per gallon – 9 cents higher than yesterday and 13 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.50 per gallon, which is the 2nd highest in the state.
