  • Florida, and South Florida specifically, have led the way for startups over the past year. Four of the top five metros in the country are in Florida with Miami #1, Orlando #3, Tampa 4th and Jacksonville 5th.  
  • As Brightline is set to launch service to Orlando September 1st, the company will do so amid a surge in use with its existing footprint. Brightline has reported a 129% increase in revenue year-over-year through the first six months of the year – with total revenue topping $30 million. 
  • Discovery’s Shark Week debut of the new series Cocaine Shark’s - suggests that Florida’s sharks are known to consume dumped or lost illicit drugs in the ocean, though there’s no evidence it’s resulted in the sharks acting more aggressively towards people. Scientists set up a series of tests with sharks in the Florida Keys to observe whether they would eat drugs and what the impact would be. The scientists used legal substances which would simulate the impact of cocaine.  
  • Gas prices jumped for a third day in a row Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.66 per gallon – 3 cents higher than yesterday and 20 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.76 per gallon, which is the second highest price in the state.
