- Two disturbances are active in the Atlantic. Tropical storm Philippe is churning through the mid-Atlantic and is now expected to weaken into a depression before dissipating later in the week without posing a threat to populated areas. Another disturbance off of the Coast of Africa is expected to develop into a tropical storm in the coming days but likewise isn’t expected to pose a threat.
- The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is advising seniors to be aware of an increased likelihood of aggressive scamming attempts heading into the holidays. In a presentation in Greenacres, PBSO’s VAST, or Volunteer Against Scams Team counseled seniors on what to expect and how not to become a victim of a scam. A newly published study shows seniors have been most likely to fall for government impersonation scams. These often occur when seniors receive unsolicited calls from those claiming to be from government agencies. You should never provide personal information in response to an unsolicited phone call. South Florida is the top target for scammers in the country.
- Attorney General Ashley Moody has sued Delray Beach based MV Realty for “deceptive and abusive” practices. Under the alleged scheme the real-estate broker pushed a “Homeowner Benefit Program” for one-time payouts ranging from a few hundred dollars up to $5,000, for the exclusive right to sell the property over a 40-year period. MV Realty has filed for bankruptcy protection.
- Gas prices continued lower on Monday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.58 per gallon – 10 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.77 per gallon, which is the fourth highest price in the state.
