  • St. Lucie County commissioners have approved zoning for a 629-acre motorsports complex. The location at Summerlin and Okeechobee roads, will be converted from an agricultural complex, which currently serves as a tree farm, into a four-mile racing circuit, an offroad track, a go-kart track, a beach club and clubhouse. The name of the development will be called P1 Motor Club, and it will be developed in stages in coming years. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in approximately three years.  
  • Step Up for Students, which is the administrator for Florida’s School Voucher programs, said all payments to schools should be caught up by the end of the day today. The expansion of Florida’s school voucher program, with the adaptation of Universal School Choice, led to record usage – with over 300,000 students participating this year – making it the largest school voucher program in the country. The administrator struggled to adapt to a new payment process with voucher expansion but has said those issues are now resolved. Numerous participating schools have been delayed in receiving funds.  
  • A disturbance has developed in the South Caribbean Sea and is being given a 20% chance of developing over the next week according to the National Hurricane Center.  
  • Gas prices are a penny lower today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 per gallon – 2 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.39 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.24 per gallon.
