An investigation is underway after the death of an off-duty police officer in Palm Beach County.
The West Palm Beach Police Department says 30-year old Officer Joshua Tyree Ballesteros drove off the road along Congress Avenue just south of 45th Street early Sunday morning.
His car struck a tree and rolled over into a canal. Two 911 callers witnessed the accident and the car upside down in the water.
Police arrived at the scene, jumped into the water and pulled Ballesteros out, and then performed CPR. Rescue crews rushed him to the hospital, where he would be pronounced dead.
A police spokesman says Ballesteros had been with the agency for six years and he was a former football player for Florida Atlantic University.
