Latest Case Shiller report, more year over year improvement - our region was fourth best in July:

Bottom Line:  Ho hum another month and another indication that housing continued it’s recovery in July.  For the 6th consecutive month the Case-Shiller Index showed price improvement and year over year in July our region (hubbed out of Miami) was the 4th best performing.  The average year over year price increase in our region was just over 5% in July.  Every month this year our area has experienced improvement and with season just around the corner and record low mortgage rates still available; we have many reasons to believe that the recovery will continue (and even accelerate) through year end.

As season nears and the housing recovery continues, I expect many snow birds that have been renting in recent years, will become buyers.  That means that with inventory already on the short-side (about 5 months in South East Florida) it could be a pretty good time to sell if you’re looking to do so or even move up buy.

Economic impact of worst call in NFL history:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/49165357

Bottom Line:  Well it’s all been said regarding the botched Monday Night Football call that led to Seattle getting a gift win and robbing Green Bay of one…  But what of the financial impact outside of those two teams?

Yesterday many reported that more than $250 million was lost or gained in Las Vegasbased on the outcome of the botched call.  Certainly a huge number.  The real number however is about four times the Vegas number.

When account for world-wide gambling (that’s accounted for) the actual number was over $1 billion.  That’s one expensive blown call and explains 1 billion times over why many are so angry over the call, aside from Green Bay fans.

US is now the 4th most educated country in the world:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-most-educated-countries-in-the-world.html?page=all

Bottom Line:  So it may be a bit of a misnomer that college education that college education equals being more educated than not.  The top companies in the world were founded by college dropouts:  Apple, Microsoft, Facebook Dell, etc.  So certainly education and intelligence does prosper outside of the walls of college.  If we’re talking general education though – I’ll bite.  So were do you think we (United States) rank in overall education in the world.  You might be pleasantly surprised.

The United States is still 4th in overall education which certainly leaves room for improvement but isn’t as poor as I would have guessed.  The countries that are more educated on average then us:  Japan, Israel & top in the World…  Look north towards Canada

Self Driving cars are now legal in...:

http://allthingsd.com/20120925/googles-self-driving-cars-now-legal-in-california/?reflink=ATD_yahoo_ticker

Bottom Line:  So I’ve kept you posted on developments with Google’s self-driving car over the past two years as information became available.  If you haven’t come across this story before the summation is as follows…  Google created technology that would work with a Toyota Prius creating the ability for the Prius to drive itself.  Once the car was tested successfully they began trials with a blind man.  Over the course of time the blind man used the car for everyday life.  Grocery store, doctor’s office, even fast food drive thru outlets – all without incident.

With the technology ready for primetime, California decided to act.  Yesterday self-driving vehicles were made street legal by California and have created a very real opportunity for the era of these vehicles.

Human error, not surprisingly, is the most common form of an auto accident.  Once self-driving cars are mass produced, insurance companies will take note.  Once these new vehicles are on the road, if they deliver on the promise and expectation that they are safer than when we control the car, you’ll see rates reflect that consideration.  We could see polices for the self-driving vehicles carry rates far below cars we drive.  As the years advance it could become cost prohibitive to actually drive your car.  But that’s way down the line (for now).

If you want the universal "Lightning Connector" for the iPhone 5 stick with Apple's:

http://www.bgr.com/2012/09/25/unofficial-lightning-cable-iphone-5/

Bottom Line:  So one of the most unpopular features of the iPhone 5 is the smaller connector that renders all previous adaptors used on the iPhone useless.  That is useless without the “Lightning Connector”.  The Lightning Connector enables the previous adaptors to be used on the iPhone 5.  With prices of these ranging from $15 to $30, it’s certainly cheaper than replacing the $100 worth of accessories an upgrading iPhone 5 owner will fork over.  But that’s only if the connector actually works.

As it turns out the 3rd party connectors won’t work effectively for the iPhone 5.  Apple built in a chip that required a sim card that only Apple can use (at least for now).  That means that the only connector you should purchase is the one manufactured by Apple.  Clearly this was one additional little way the ensured they continued to benefit from add ons…
