Home prices actually increased their rate of growth in July - The secret to the growth:
Bottom Line: Core Logic found that despite higher prices and higher mortgage rates the average home price growth rate climbed to 12.4% year over year in July. Cash is still a driving force in appreciation but so is the dwindling number of distressed property sales. Distressed property sales are now only about 15% of all sales and dropping. Fewer distressed properties being used as comps is helping fuel the appreciation growth.
Who makes the best manager?:
Bottom Line: What age group ranks highest in overall managerial prowess according to the average employee in the workplace? According to Ernst & Young who studied this it’s not the older managers and certainly not the youngest… It’s those who are in the middle. Gen X managers (those between the ages of 33 and 48) were ranked as the best managers by 70% of employees. The worst? The youngest. Gen Y managers (those between the ages of 18 and 32) were dead last as they were identified as often being entitled and not hard working.

Who paid income taxes in 2013?:
Bottom Line: Income taxes (and who pays them) became a common topic during the 2012 election cycle. We know that 47% of Americans, who earned income, didn’t have to pay Federal Income taxes in 2012. If you’re like me and frustrated by so many Americans not paying taxes you’ll like the 2013 a little more. This year the number is down to 43% of Americans who didn’t have to pay any Federal Income tax. Fewer tax breaks being used with more people working and slightly higher income led to about 4% more Americans having to pay at least something. I still want to see a flat tax so every American has to pay a relative amount and thus a vested interest in spending decisions by politicians.
Looks like the Nokia brand is dead & why Wall-Street is wrong about this one:
Bottom Line: Here’s an update to the Microsoft buyout of Nokia. It does appear as though the Microsoft brand will prevail and that Nokia’s days are number in the
The other new tech product set to debut this month:
Bottom Line: If you were thinking of getting a Kindle – wait just a bit. Amazon is about the release a new “Paperwhite” e-reader that should be available to preorder within the next week and will ship Sept. 30th. Nothing revolutionary about the new device but it’ll have better resolution, a faster processor and lighting. With a price tag at around $120 the price will be right if you’re so inclined.
