Local Country Clubs and Resorts are looking to hire Americans, vs. foreigners.
Palm Beach County is looking to hire 8,000 workers for the upcoming tourist season, which runs from November thru March. Jobs such as cooks wait staff, and other workers will soon be offered by resorts and clubs in the area. Some of the larger employers looking to fill positions include Boca Resort & Club, Ballenisles, Ibis Golf and Club and Admiral's Cove. They are working with WorkForce Alliance to help find suitable candidates to fill the jobs, which pay $10 to $13 per hour, plus tips. The county is looking to hire more Americans this year. In 2011-2012 the clubs and resorts had brought in 1,700 workers from other countries. The establishments are looking for people who are willing "to put their personal lives on hold" for the six month period. With the help of WorkForce Alliance, and with the right training, the county is hopeful they can get more Americans to fill the positions. WorkForce Alliance is holding a Hospitality Career Workshop on Thursday from 9am until 3pm at 1951 N. Military trail at the corner of Military trail and Okeechobee Blvd in West Palm Beach.
