After almost 2 years of rehabilitation at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, she was released back into the ocean.

On Saturday morning, hundreds of people gathered at Juno Beach to watch as Kahuna was released.

The adult female loggerhead turtle spent 2 years at Loggerhead Marinelife Center being nursed back to health after a shark attacked her.  Dr. Charles Manire, Director of Research and Rehabilitation at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, says Kahuna had shark bites on her front flippers and a very bad bone infection, both of which required over a year of treatment and some unusual therapy to stop the infection.

Around 10:30am, the staff at Loggerhead loaded Kahuna up, and transported her to the beach.  The crowd cheered as she quickly, and without hesitation, moved into the ocean.

Dr. Manire says they will be tracking Kahuna for about a year to find out where she ends up!
