Tequesta resident William Ramsey Hayes is now facing one count of animal cruelty.

42 year old Hayes was arrested Friday night at 9:30, after witnesses called police, claiming they saw Hayes repeatedly slamming his young labrador retriver to the ground.
Police say the man continued to attack the dog until he was confronted by one of the witnesses, Hayes then the fled the area with the dog.
While one person was on the phone with police, another followed the man to his residence a half mile away from the scene.
Police later arrested Hayes at his home, while the dog was taken to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control after it was having trouble sitting up then fell over. The injured animal will remain under the county's care for further evaluation.
