A new report shows Florida spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year, offering remedial classes to college students to re-teach reading, English and math skills they should have learned in high school.
Nearly two out of every five Palm Beach County high school graduates need these remedial classes at community colleges like Palm Beach State.
Experts say the state and individual school districts have been trying to align high school teaching with the expectations of colleges in order to lower that number, but at least one member of the state Board of Education says not all schools are doing this with an equal amount of seriousness.
