Tracking Hurricane Sandy: Very Windy Conditions in South Florida

5am Update: Sandy is passing near Great Abaco Island and the wind field continues to expand.

According to the 5am update from the National Hurricane Center, Sandy is passing near Great Abaco Island and the wind field continues to expand.  Maximum sustained winds are at 80mph.  

Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast are still under a Tropical Storm Warning.



Local Forecast from Storm Team 5: 

Friday morning, northeasterly winds 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50mph.  Fast moving bands of heavy rain, especially close to the coast.

Friday afternoon and evening, north/northwesterly winds 35-45 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph.  Some bands of rain, but the winds will be the big story.  Very dangerous surf.
