Chances now appear slim for U.S. Rep. Allen West (R) to return to the U.S. House.

A noon deadline to report new returns in the Congressional District 18 race, passed sunday, and with it, so has Republican Representative Allen West's chance at a second term in the House.
A weekend recount from all eight days of early voting had been demanded by partisans of Allen West. Results placed democrat Patrick Murphy farther ahead of West than before the two-day effort began. St. Lucie County elections officials couldn't finish processing the ballots in the race.
Under state law, unless they have received an emergency exemption from the state, unofficial results filed last week will be certified.
Those results showed Murphy the winner in the race by about 19-hundred votes.
