A chief in the Florida Keys is giving drivers something to cry about during the holiday season, but not in the way you might think.

Monroe County Chief Lou Caputo doles out onions instead of traffic citations to motorists who violate the speed limit outside an elementary school in Marathon, Fla., by no more than 5 mph.

Dressed as the Christmas ``Grinch,'' Caputo doled out about 10 of the tear-provoking vegetables to motorists on Monday afternoon. He has donned the Grinch costume nearly every holiday season since seeing actor Jim Carrey in the 2000 movie of the same name.

The radar-gun-wielding ``Grinch'' is on hand to provide a light-hearted reminder to drivers to slow down.

Drivers have the option of an onion or a ticket. Nine times out of 10 they accept the vegetable.
