Late night massage parlors in Florida will face a curfew if a rookie lawmaker from Lake Worth gets his way.
Democratic State Representative Dave Kerner says some of those storefront parlors are nothing more than brothels run by sex traffickers, and the women working there are victims, as modern day slaves.
Kerner says legitimate massage operations based in resorts, health clubs or spas would still be able to operate round the clock, but the rest would have to close down between 10 o'clock at night and six in the morning.
You may be surprised to know that those in the massage industry are in agreeance with the new regulations. That's because Sebastian Alexander with the Florida State Massage Therapy Association says he's fed up with the sleazy businesses ruining the reputation of legitimate massage therapists. He wants criminal checks on people who own the storefront clinics.
But Alexander also wants to tweak the curfew hours, closing the parlors from Midnight to 5a.m.
