Longtime local film critic Hap Erstein gives us his take on the newest films, except the horror movie that opens this weekend.
"Ahhhnold" is back, Russell Crowe gets to rest his vocal chords and do what he does best and what...no "Mama" review??? We check in with Hap Erstein from PalmBeachArtspaper.com.
"The Last Stand" - Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first leading role since before he became the "Governator". It's been ten years, and Arnold is older, and Hap says it shows...plus he points it out several times in the film. This is an action film, of course, with some humor thrown in.
"Broken City" - Russell Crowe is in two films playing at theaters at the same time, but in this one he doesn't have to sing (see "Les Miserables"). Hap says Crowe does a better job in this suspense thriller. Mark Wahlberg plays a private eye hired to work for Crowe's New York mayor, to find out who Crowe's wife is having an affair with.
"Mama" - Hap didn't review this horror film, never does. But this movie stars Jessica Chastain, a likely Oscar-winner for her role in "Zero Dark Thirty".
Hap's Art House Pick of the Week
"A Royal Affair" - A film that is up for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, though Hap doesn't believe it has a shot against "Amour". Still, he recommends this one.
