Palm Beach County public health officials are labeling the spread of the flu as "Moderate" this time around. They cite an uptick in kids missing school, an increase in hospital emergency room visits from people with flu-like symptoms.
There have also been two outbreaks of flu-like illnesses at two Palm Beach County nursing homes, though they have not been named. We're told that eleven residents of one of the facilities reported being sick with those symptoms. Three of the residents tested positive for the flu.
Officials with the Palm Beach County Health Department tell us that historically, this is the time of the year that the agency sees a rise in activity, which continues into March.
Flu shots are available through your doctor, some local pharmacies and at the South Florida Fair.
