Among the 15 municipalities that are holding elections on Tuesday, West Palm Beach voters are electing a city commissioner.
Shanon Materio was appointed after longtime commissioner Bill Moss died last year. She wants to serve the final year of his term.
Materio is being challenged by Gregg Weiss. We tried to reach Weiss to get comment, and have been unsuccessful.
You may have heard about claims from the Weiss campaign about an "illegal contribution" to Materio from Commissioner Keith James, just as he was about to get out of the race.
Materio offers this explanation: "This was a campaign change and an ordinance that was very subtle and not really put out there. He had given me the check prior to his ending of his campaign. We're going to be returning that check right away. It's not an illegal contribution. It was just a mistake."
She says "You are allowed to give a campain contribution from one campaign to another, prior to closing out the campaign. Commissioner (Keith) James closed out his campaign and wrote a check to us the next day."
We asked Materio what she wants to accomplish if elected.
"I've been working on a lot of things and I'm very excited and energized over the things that are happening in the city. I am excited to continue working on the redevelopment project. As a small business owner, that is my main focus as well as our neighborhoods."
