If you use the Flagler Memorial Bridge, Florida transportation officials say it will not close during the day, while construction is underway on a new span.
The FDOT told West Palm Beach city leaders and town officials from Palm Beach on Tuesday that they will have to close the bridge some evenings, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., to repair it. Meanwhile, engineers will continue to monitor the bridge for any problems on a daily basis.
The state Department of Transportation had originally planned to shut down the old Flagler Bridge while the new one is built, but public outcry caused officials to come up with a new plan.
In order to keep the old bridge open, crews will need to reinforce the foundation, which will cost $5 million and delay construction of the new bridge by about six months.
