Florida is in the grips of a national drug crisis and Attorney General Ashley Moody points the blame at the Biden administration for mishandling the southern border.

"We have not been able to control at the border the way we want to, the way we expect it to be controlled and so this is flowing into our country."

She spoke this week from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office where Sheriff Ric Bradshaw had a similar message.

"The federal government is allowing people in this country to die because they won't shut off this border. They won't shut off this fentanyl source."

The comments were made during an event to spread the word about National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

Moody asks residents to go through your home and safely drop off any expired or unused medications at one of the more than 200 locations in the state.

"Because we know that dangerous drug experimentation that may start in a medicine cabinet can end up in a body bag."

In Palm Beach, the drop-off opportunities happen year round and Sheriff Bradshaw says it's been helping to keep a lot of potentially dangerous drugs off the streets.

"Last year we collected about 3,200 pounds. This year we're already up at 1,100 so I think we'll break the record that we had last year."

The 26th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at more than 200 locations across the state.
